Our 5,727-Mile Tesla Model Y Road Trip to the Canadian Rockies and the Pacific Coast

June 26 – July 20, 2025 · 25 days

Videos coming later. This trip has not yet been edited and published on our YouTube channel. Until then, here is the trip data I tracked along the way.

We left the Salt Lake City, UT area in our Model Y Long Range seven-seater with three adults and four kids and a Thule hitch box on the back. We went north through Idaho to Glacier National Park, into Alberta for Banff and Jasper, past Mount Robson to Vancouver, then down the Pacific coast through North Cascades, Mount Rainier, Olympic, Crater Lake, Redwoods and Lassen Volcanic before heading home.

Driving vs charging

What it cost

$676.67Supercharging value (free Supercharging on our car), about 12¢ per mile
$852.96gas car comparison at 25 mpg
$2,369.32our truck towing the RV at 9 mpg
$213all charging at home at 11¢/kWh (4¢/mile)

A 27 mpg vehicle would have cost about $854 (15¢ per mile) and a 32 mpg vehicle about $721 (13¢ per mile), so without free Supercharging the Model Y would have cost about the same as an efficient gas car. The big savings come from charging at home: over 33,000 miles and 264 Supercharging sessions our average Supercharger price has been 37¢ per kWh, while home electricity in our area is about 11¢, 70% less.
